In the context of the booming global esports industry, the US esports betting market has yet to reach the maturity many expected. That's the candid assessment from Seth Young, CEO of ROLR – a prediction platform for esports seeking to tap this fertile but challenging terrain. Seth Young, a former professional CS2 player, has spent over 15 years observing and participating in the esports ecosystem. He founded ROLR with the mission to bridge the gap between the massive US esports viewership and the still-limited prediction trading activity. “The US esports market is not there yet,” Young says, “and I've been saying this for seven years.” Young's caution is not unfounded. According to industry data, US esports viewership has soared, but the conversion rate into betting or prediction trading remains very low. Young compares: “Everybody piled into an arena to watch a League of Legends game – but they're not trading predictions on it.” The reasons may include regulatory barriers, product mismatch, or different consumer culture. ROLR does not try to compete head-on with giants like DraftKings or FanDuel. Instead, the company focuses on the prediction market – a model distinct from traditional sports betting. “We know who we are and who we aren't,” Young emphasizes. ROLR's strategy is to be “surgical” in ad spending, only investing where ROAS (Return on Ad Spend) can be measured. ROLR's strategic partner is Spike Up Media, a multi-vertical lead generation firm. This relationship has been proven through five years of successful collaboration in markets weaker than the US. “We've demonstrated positive ROAS in those markets,” Young confidently states. This shows that ROLR's model works, but the biggest challenge remains the maturity of the US market. Young acknowledges that expanding into the US is a calculated move. “The pie is large and growing, but we don't need to eat it all – just get our fair share,” he says. ROLR aims to capture market share through product differentiation and financial discipline, rather than burning cash to dominate. However, the biggest risk remains timing. If the US esports market does not develop as expected over the next few years, ROLR could face difficulties. But with a solid foundation from international markets and strategic partnerships, the company is well-positioned to wait for the next wave. For Vietnam's esports industry, ROLR's story offers lessons in patience and selective development strategy. As the global esports betting market gradually matures, those with strong foundations and long-term vision will be the ultimate winners.
