HMA’s Nursing Care program provides you with flexibility, convenience and quick resolutions to common health conditions without an appointment or travel to see a doctor. All you do is call 1-800-377-3977 and explain your symptoms. If your symptoms match the conditions we treat, you’ll be transferred to a nurse practitioner. You can get a quick diagnosis and treatment for conditions such as sinus infections, pink eye, urinary tract infections and whooping cough that would normally require an office visit.
If you need a prescription, the nurse practitioner can send the prescription to the pharmacy of your choice. You might incur a charge for this service depending on your coverage. But chances are the charge would be much less than you would pay for a doctor’s office visit.
Here’s what Care My Way treats
Care My Way is available to HMA members from 7:30a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Here are some of the conditions we treat:
- Pink eye (bacterial conjunctivitis)
- Sinus infection
- Cold sores
- Tick bite – over age 8
- Athlete’s foot – over age 10
- Eczema – children
- Head lice
- Urinary tract infection– female adults
- Jock itch – male adults and adolescents

- Poison ivy rash
- Thrush – infants

- Diaper rash – infants/toddlers
- Scabies exposure/symptoms

Healthful assistance as near as a phone
Registered nurses are always ready to help a mother decide whether her child can wait until morning to see a doctor. They can provide information on treating a minor illness or injury at home. Or they can provide referrals to community-support resources or support groups when they are needed. All it takes is a toll-free phone call.
- Callers are asked about their health problem.
- When the symptoms described are serious, the nurse will recommend a visit to the physician, urgent care or the emergency department. In the event of a true emergency, callers will be instructed to call 911 or their local emergency number.
- When symptoms are not serious, the nurse can give instructions for care at home. Later, the nurse might call back to make sure the problem is being resolved.
Working with personal care physicians
Records of calls to the Nurse Line may be placed in callers’ medical files so their physicians will have the most up-to-date information when providing continuing care.

When you have questions about health topics (nutrition, prenatal care, breaking the smoking habit, etc.) the nurse can answer questions and mail free additional information. The nurses can also connect callers to recorded information concerning hundreds of topics.
